Drinking and driving

Never exceed the Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limits set for drivers.

Like with any alcoholic drink, the consumption of wine affects the capacity to perform some activities, such as driving.

Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC):

  • BAC is the quantity of alcohol in the bloodstream: a BAC of 0.5% indicates that the individual has 0.5g of alcohol in their body per 1 litre of blood.
  • With every standard drink of 10g of alcohol, the BAC normally increases by 0.2-0.3 per drink. The BAC will generally reduce approximately 0.2-0.1 every hour (¾ for a standard drink, or 8g of alcohol an hour).
  • The BAC increases rapidly when alcohol is consumed on an empty stomach.

The BAC increases rapidly when alcohol is consumed on an empty stomach:

  • 0,5 g/l
  • 0.2 g/l for probationary and professional drivers
