Wine in Moderation
AAs the number one family wine business in Portugal, and one of a group of leading wine businesses in Europe – present in five continents with wines and production facilities in Portugal, Argentina, Chile and New Zealand and additional distribution operations in Portugal, Argentina, the US, Angola and Hong Kong – Sogrape Vinhos wholeheartedly supports the European viticultural sector's “Wine in Moderation” initiative. This support is manifested in the Social Responsibility Charter, signed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors. The “Healthy Consumption of Wine” Charter established a series of action points to which Sogrape Vinhos is committed.
- The company is committed to encouraging a lifestyle based on the moderate consumption of wine, avoiding promotions or publicity that encourage abuse or improper use on the part of consumers, and discouraging drinking among young people under the age of 18, pregnant women and those with health problems
- Sogrape Vinhos rigorously upholds its compliance with European standards: sharing them with distributors, clients and consumers in the hope of encouraging their adherence to the same. The company endeavours to implement the European Union Wine Sector's “Wine in Moderation” project, in Portugal, adhering to European Wine codes of communication.
- Internal measures of good practice are implemented to establish self-regulation in the marketing and sale of Sogrape Vinhos' wines. These include staff training and the provision of information regarding moderation and responsibility for consumers attending Visitor Centres and other installations.
- Information specific to wine and health is made available in various places on the Internet, as well as links relating to healthy wine on other sites.
- Sogrape Vinhos is committed to using the phrase: “Be responsible. Drink in moderation” on all of their publicity and promotional material ensuring it is at least 33% of the largest side, and preferably written horizontally to aid readability and understanding.
- The moderate consumption of wine is promoted, with incentives given to the service of wine by the glass and the availability of bottles tailored to individual consumption. Signed by Salvador Guedes in June 2008.
